Intestinal Obstruction
1. Cardinal Symptoms (Ab pain, distension, vomiting, absolute constipation)
2. Level of Obstruction
- Based on pain (around umbilicus – midgut)
- Onset of vomiting and level of distention
3. Causes : Adhesions, Hernia
Ix
X-Ray Supine Abdomen
? Differentiating small from large bowel
Mx
Intially conservative.
- NG tube decompression
- IV fluid replacement
Clinical signs suggestive of impending strangulation.
- Colicky pain –> Persistent pain
- Poor localisation –> Localized pain
- Pt deteriorating
Ex Lap if risk of strangulation.

- Full thickness
Escharatomy
- For circumferential, full-thickness burns.
- Tourniquet effect.
- Dressing for full thickness burns
- 1% Silver Sulphadiazine cream
