Finding the Tissue Plane
- Lump moves with skin – Attached to skin (Sebaceous cyst)
- If skin above the lump is movable (by 2 fingers or pinching over the lump) – Lump is not attached to the skin.
- Then hold the lump and try to move it. If immobile and hard – Bony lump (Osteoma).
- Ask to flex the muscle. If mobility reduces – Muscle plane
- If mobility doesn’t reduce – Subcutaneous plane
Sebaceous Cyst
Salient features
- Skin discolouration
- Punctum
- Attached to the skin
- Indentation (when lump is pressed indentation retains)
Excision under LA.
Can get infected.
