Scrotal Swelling

Hydrocoele

Examination technique for any scrotal swelling.

1. Ask the pt to cough and look inguinal hernia orifices.

2. Lift the enlarged scroum up and look for scars.

3. Palpate for spermatic cord (size of a pencil) and confirm whether the lump is confined to scrotum.

4. Stabile hemiscrotum with one hand and palpate for the testis with other hand. (testis is palpable in lax hydrocoele)

5. Look for fluctuation (for any lump before transilluminence) in 2 sides.

6. Transilluminence.

7. Palpate other testis and check whether its normal.

8. Ask the patient to stand and look for hernia.

Presentation

There’s a swelling in the right hemiscrotum.

Its confined to the R hemiscrotum.

Testis cannot be palpated seperately.

Its fluctulant and transilluminates.
